7.4% INCREASED OF TOURISTS TO COSTA RICA IN FIRST HALF OF 2012.

In June, the Juan Santamaria International Airport reported 80% of arrivals by air.

From January to June over one million 285 thousand tourists entered Costa Rica for all ports. This number is 7.4 percent higher than in the same period last year.

This was announced by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), based on data provided by the General Depatment of Immigration.

Only by air were reported 856 600 international arrivals, representing growth of 6.2%, in other words, 50 000 more people, most of them through the Juan Santamaria International Airport, although the latter was up only 1.3 percent. The majority of tourists arrive by air.

Tourists from the United States, Canada and Mexico top the list of entries by air. The second block in tourist importance is Europe and the third is South America.

Costa Rica creció en inversión extranjera en el primer trimestre de 2012.

Costa Rica obtuvo 504,2 millones de dólares en inversión extranjera directa durante el primer trimestre de 2012, representando un incremento del 7,7%.

En una declaración la Ministra de comercio exterior, Anabel González, comento: “Este trimestre reveló un patrón similar al del año anterior, con la participación de la inversión extranjera en telecomunicaciones,” dijo.

Según datos oficiales, el sector más activo durante el primer trimestre del 2012 fue el de telecomunicaciones, con inversiones por $ 155 millones, siendo un 31% del total, seguido por la manufactura con $105 millones y turismo con $60,50 millones, entre otros. Esto en comparación con el acumulado $ 468 millones en el mismo período de 2011.

La mayor cantidad de inversión extranjera llegó desde Estados Unidos con $277 millones; en segundo lugar México con $93 millones y España tercera con 91 millones.

Los empresarios han estado interesados en invertir o seguir invirtiendo en Costa Rica que espera que sus desarrollos, entre los que se encuentra los de propiedades, como los de Costa Developers, se van consolidando en el corto y mediano plazo.

Costa Rica propuso como una meta alcanzar 2 billones de dólares de Inversion Extranjera Directa durante el año 2012.
