Children planted 500 trees in Osa Peninsula

Costa Rica has been characterized by the preservation of the environment and reforestation programs are part of this.

The Osa Peninsula, located in the South Pacific of Costa Rica received a very special prize by dozens of boys and girls who offered to its environment 500 fruit trees planted at strategic points of the Peninsula in commemoration of mother's day.

In accordance with The Costa Rica News, Yency Arroyo from the Diario Extra mentioned that in this important activity also participated members of the Osa municipality, entrepreneurs and public officials.

These trees were planted along some of the main roads of the town; it is most species fruit, like lemon, mango and papaya, characteristic of the area and in addition to the Costa Rican fruit stand out among others for its quality and freshness. The idea is to provide the sector with more shade and oxygen for residents of the region and preserve the Osa sector with their respective wildlife.

Activity is part of a wider project of reforestation in the area, which aims to reverse some of the damages that have led for decades by irresponsible practices of crops or buildings.

Costa Rica is a country that has its territory covered by more than half by forests, besides that contains 5% d the biodiversity of the world, so the conservation of the natural habitats of the species is extremely important. It is also expected that forest coverage passes the 52.3% to 60% in the coming years.

In the country, there are currently two major programs of great importance which have served as promoters for the advancement of a nation carbon neutral as expected in Costa Rica, through the reforestation.

Institutions so involved the Ministry of environment and energy of Costa Rica, it has recovered a lot of forest through the program of payment for ecosystem services and reduction of carbon emissions caused by deforestation and forest degradation. These programs have been effective, especially the PSE since involves owners of the land.

The participation of children in the reforestation process has also been valuable, as this promotes environmental conservation from an early age, so that they themselves can appreciate where they live and contribute to the care of the species of the area.
