Commercial alliances with China have increased in the Government of President Laura Chinchilla.

The Minister of tourism of Costa Rica, Allan Flores said in recent days from Beijing was signed a memorandum on air cooperation between China and Costa Rica with which it seeks to increase Chinese tourism to Costa Rica.

Initiative pursues the increase at four times the number of visitors from China in the next three years. According to the goal intends to spend 12 thousand current Chinese per year to 50 000 in 2016.

"In the absence of direct air links between China and Costa Rica, something that is technically very difficult due to the long distance (as with almost all Latin America), this type of links seek to stimulate the arrival of Chinese tourists," said.

For example, developing travel packages that include Costa Rica as a destination added to U.S. cities already very popular among travelers from China, said Flores.

The country is currently in search of a profile of specific tourist, those who travel frequently outside of China, and have for favorite destinations, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Viet Nam.

The country wants to be shown as a safe destination, suitable to enjoy eco-tourism, bird watching, and other adventure activities.

This is part of the plan for the diversification of the attraction of tourism in Costa Rica, since this activity is usually promoted to countries like United States, Canada and the European Union; however the country now seeks to attract to the Asian region.

During his visit to China, the Costa Rican delegation, which also includes the Deputy Minister of transport, Ana Cristina Jenkins, met with leaders of three of the major airlines in the country (Air China, China Eastern and Hainan Airlines) and the director of the administration of Civil Aviation, Li Jiaxiang.

Costa Rica carried out its first export of dairy products to China

The plan is that Dos Pinos starts exporting butter, juices and nectar before end of the year.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture of Costa Rica, Gloria Abraham said that: "the achievement of the two pine trees is a firm step in the process of inserting our companies and food producers in a market as big as China, whose authorities have expressed interest in significantly increasing the levels of marketing with our countries. We will continue to support our sector in this goal through our animal health services and we are confident that in a short time, not only the Dos Pinos increase your sales and strengthen a niche in that huge market, but it we can announce the entry of other origin products agriculture, like pineapple, melon and meat".

China signs agreement with Costa Rica for $500 million

China and Costa Rica have been strengthening relations about two years ago.

The President of China Xi Jinping proposed to Costa Rica a program of cooperation, donations and loans that reach an amount of 500 million dollars.

During a visit to Costa Rica, the Chinese President and the President Laura Chinchilla signed agreements on Monday morning.

On other occasions has been said that China is one of the Governments that has most contributed to Costa Rica, and with this agreement was established as the maximum welfare.

One of the most ambitious projects that will support China, is on the road from route 32 (San Jose-Limon) financing by $ 400 million.

In the case of this road the credit will be provided by the Export Bank of China (EXIMBANK).

This same bank in the same way state banks will offer a credit of 100 million dollars for the rotation of loans to businesses and individuals seeking to renew the fleet of their companies by vehicles using clean, such as gas or electricity energy.

One of the unions most benefited will be public transport, which has 12,000 taxis and some 4,000 buses. The loan conditions that entrepreneurs need to buy Chinese vehicles, but that may be where they prefer.

China, also promoted a loan to facilitate the purchase of 5000 solar panels that produce electricity, this amount would be 30 million dollars.

Within the donations were delivered 8 400 computers for public schools students, and 800 who were teachers.

La Costa Rican cooperative dairy Dos Pinos, also signed an agreement to make this company the first export of its products to cities such as Beijing and Chingqping, and the State of Canton.

The President of China, Xi Jinping will visit the city of San José, Costa Rica from 2 to 4 June as part of his tour of Latin America, announced President Laura Chinchilla.

One of the main objectives of the visit of the Chinese President is mutual agreements between the two countries, especially on investment in infrastructure, clean energy and education area.

"China is critical for us," says President Chinchilla, who seeks that Costa Rica is part of the most recognized groups of economies around the world.

Costa Rica seeks to attract tourists in China

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) World Tourism grew by 4% in 2012 compared to the previous year, some 1,035 international tourists, and China and Russia remain markets with greater growth in tourists visiting other parts of the world, with 42% and 31% respectively.

According to the ICT data seeks to attract a number of 80 million Chinese who travel around the world and work in a successful strategy to achieve this goal.

"China is a very important market in what refers to international promotion strategies and in June we will be signing an air trade agreement with China," said flowers.

The agreement mentions the Minister manages to ratify a memorandum of understanding signed by the Governments of China as Costa Rica last August open opportunities with Chinese airlines to find flights and more direct flights to the Central American country and vice versa.

It is expected that in future editions, the country participate again in this important fair.

China donates $4.8 million to Costa Rica, loans another $4.8 million

The two countries sign cooperation agreements on education and on maintenance for the National Stadium.

A new donation from the Republic of China was signed Tuesday between President Laura Chinchilla and Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Representatives from both countries also signed cooperation agreements for hosting six Chinese teachers who will teach Mandarin classes in three training centers at the National Training Institute, for a period of two years.

They also agreed on a draft for technical cooperation for the National Stadium, donated by China, to provide a pumping system and specialized technical assistance for daily maintenance.

China approves Costa Rican beef exports

Permission from the Chinese government for Tico dairy products is in a final stage of evaluation.

Chinese officials reported Today that Costa Rica is officially included in the list of countries authorized to export beef to that country.

During an August tour of Asia by Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, officials from both countries announced the forthcoming opening of the market for Costa Rican beef, pending delivery to the Asian country of health certificates.

Foreign Trade Minister Anabel González said that China’s approval “is a win for the agricultural export sector, because that market offers great potential for our businesses, and we will continue working on the identification of potential niche markets for Costa Rican products.”

Costa Rica already has approval for entry into China of bananas and cattle hides, and is working on the approval for pork, chicken, seafood, pineapple and melon. Permission for dairy products is in its final stage, according to PROCOMER.

During the first year of entry into force of the China-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement, exports from Costa Rica to China increased 70 percent compared to the same period the previous year, before the trade agreement was implemented.

Earlier Thursday morning, Li Ching Hua, Chinese ambassador to Costa Rica, and San José Mayor Johnny Araya shook hands before a large ingress pared with Chinese characters set before four large concrete spheres.  

Men in protective masks pushed heavy machinery buffing the colored pavestones on what was previously thePaseo de los Estudiantes (Students’ Boulevard). The mayor and the ambassador gave certificates of thanks to the Chinese laborers contracted to build the arch.

Araya said the arch ran the Chinese government $500,000, which was donated in one of many recent demonstrations of solidarity. “It is a monumental work of art, a beautiful piece of art that will represent one more attraction in San José, bringing more tourists to the capital,” the mayor said.

In the same breath, the Chinese also announced a scholarship program that would incentivize Costa Rican students to take up studies in China, as well as $130 million in aid that was used to fund the procurement of brand new police vehicles and other equipment. The bumpers of these vehicles still boast the slogan, “a gift from China.”

Since that time, Chinese donations have continued unabated. The Asian giant donated $100 million for a new football stadium in Sabana Park, in western San José. The country also recently pledged $25 million for a police academy in Limón, as well as another $8 million that was to be used at Costa Rica’s discretion.
