This is the first time that a "tico" wins this important international golf competition.
The
young Costa Rican golfer José Méndez took the #Championship world youth
Callaway in Los Angeles this weekend, Méndez became the first Costa
Rican to obtain this title in its category.
Tournament was held in the city of California.
José Méndez beat just two hits to the Australian golfer Lucas Hebert, Costa Rica earned a total of 283 hits in four rounds.
Within
the competence Mendez got a five under par, excellent performances in
the first round, where I only need 68 hits, the best entry in any
competition.
During all the competition, young maintained an excellent level, in search of the win.
"I
am very excited, this is something not only for me but for #CostaRica
and hard to describe it. The day was difficult, Lucas got me too much
pressure at the end but I think the key was consistency throughout these
four days," Mendez told the newspaper La Nacion from United States.
Mendez award comes at a time just because he fulfilled his 18 years and this corresponds to the age limit for the tournament.
The
golfer told the newspaper a day which was not easy reach this victory:
"without a doubt his perseverance in this sport that is critical. The
days were very closed to competition level; "Lucas (Herbert) was my
opponent harder I followed closely and the concentration in the game and
confidence in myself was allowing you to maintain control".
This was the last chance that Mendez had be champion because already have reached 18 years age limit to participate
his
triumph is very representative in the career of golfers, since other
athletes of this game is crowned champions at their age, such as the
famous #TigerWoods and Jason Day.
By the time the young prepare to enter the University of Minnesota, where he studied international trade.
