The majority of tourists that visit Costa Rica have opted to go to the places most striking and popular in the country, but the rural tourism has taken boom in recent times.

Although rural tourism is still an option that keeps the public skeptical still, according to data from the ICT in 2008 approximately 3.5% of the tourists who visited the country opted for experience in these centers, however the number has increased significantly, as the year 2012 this was 10.5%.

Currently in the country, there are some 21 tourist companies certified by the ICT, however the National Chamber of tourism community (CANTURURAL) has a few members 31.
