New road to Monteverde to be ready in 2014.

Construction of a badly needed new road to the popular mountainous destination could begin in November.
 The National Roadway Council (CONAVI) on Tuesday promised residents of the cloud forest community of Monteverde that construction of a new road will start in November. 
The agreement came after a meeting attended by officials from CONAVI, the Comptroller General’s Office and residents of the north-central community, one of Costa Rica's most popular tourist destinations.
CONAVI officials agreed to open a public bid for the project no later than September. The ₡7.5 billion ($15 million) project will include an asphalt road to replace an 18-kilometer stretch of deteriorated gravel road. It also will include the construction of ditches and guardrails.
If the Comptroller General’s Office approves a public-bid contract, work would begin in November. CONAVI said the project would take 10 months to complete.
Some 100,000 tourists visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve each year.

The construction industry aims to a growth of 11% in Costa Rica

Chamber of Construction of Costa Rica said that for this year it is estimated that the construction of residential and urbanizations will grow by 11%.
 The Costa Rican Chamber of construction recorded growth speculated the country must respond directly to the improvement and acceleration of procedures related to start construction, as well as speculation in the economy’s growth.

The President of the Chamber of Construction, Gonzalo Delgado, has expressed that to achieve growth that is planned, it is necessary to build a long term commitment of the institutions of the State planning to improve the conditions of access to housing.

Costa MontañaDelgado also mentioned that it is a requirement that the figures of trusts, pension funds and public works concession are developed so that this takes place. It is also essential for the sector to reduce interest rates and work on the stability of the exchange rate.

The development of the sector in the previous year’s also indicates that last year's growth was 11%, with approximately 570 000 square meters of construction recorded in processes of 2011.

These data recorded by provincial correspond to the following figures in accordance with construction area: Puntarenas showed a growth of 43.6%, Heredia a 25.3%, lemon a 24.9%, Guanacaste 20.8% and San Jose a 6.8%. Alajuela and Cartago provinces showed a decrease of the construction.

$1.4 million in improvements for Manuel Antonio National Park


Environment Minister René Castro announced that the Costa Rican government will invest $1.4 million in improving the popular tourist destination Manuel Antonio National Park, located in the Pacific province of Puntarenas.

costadevelopers.comThe funds will be used to make improvements to the infrastructure of the park – one of the most visited in Costa Rica – to better serve visitors, starting next year.

In 2011, Manuel Antonio received some 318,000 tourists, according to the Costa Rican Tourism Board.

During the announcement, officials from the Social Protection Council presented a lottery ticket for the Nov. 4 drawing, with a design made to commemorate the park’s 40th anniversary.
