China signs agreement with Costa Rica for $500 million

China and Costa Rica have been strengthening relations about two years ago.
The President of China Xi Jinping proposed to Costa Rica a program of cooperation, donations and loans that reach an amount of 500 million dollars.
During a visit to Costa Rica, the Chinese President and the President Laura Chinchilla signed agreements on Monday morning.
On other occasions has been said that China is one of the Governments that has most contributed to Costa Rica, and with this agreement was established as the maximum welfare.
One of the most ambitious projects that will support China, is on the road from route 32 (San Jose-Limon) financing by $ 400 million.
In the case of this road the credit will be provided by the Export Bank of China (EXIMBANK).
This same bank in the same way state banks will offer a credit of 100 million dollars for the rotation of loans to businesses and individuals seeking to renew the fleet of their companies by vehicles using clean, such as gas or electricity energy.
One of the unions most benefited will be public transport, which has 12,000 taxis and some 4,000 buses. The loan conditions that entrepreneurs need to buy Chinese vehicles, but that may be where they prefer.
China, also promoted a loan to facilitate the purchase of 5000 solar panels that produce electricity, this amount would be 30 million dollars.
Within the donations were delivered 8 400 computers for public schools students, and 800 who were teachers.
La Costa Rican cooperative dairy Dos Pinos, also signed an agreement to make this company the first export of its products to cities such as Beijing and Chingqping, and the State of Canton.
Another of export products will be pork; comprising all the sanitary and veterinary protocols this increases the offer of Costa Rican meat in the Chinese market.
Costa Rican authorities also wanted to emphasize that there are no conditions for receiving multi-million-dollar cooperation since the Asian country.

Minister of foreign trade, Anabel González, participates this week at the headquarters of the Organization for cooperation and economic development (OECD) in Paris, France, in order to ensure that Costa Rica should be incorporated into the Forum.
The OECD on the other hand, is in final discussions on a possible extension of this organization; in recent years it has been contemplating the entry of eight potential candidates, among them Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Latvia and Lithuania.
Since 2010 Costa Rica began its approach to the OECD, promoted by the Government of current President Laura Chinchilla; as part of this approach is promoted the participation of the Central American country in various forums, committees and working groups.
The participation of Costa Rica is mainly guided by the Minister of foreign trade, Anabel Gonzalez, who was also participating to the post of Director of the World Trade Organization.
In recent months has intensified the involvement and approach to this forum, the investment to achieve this goal, especially in terms of fighting corruption, green growth, promotion of technological innovation and science.
There has been in the same way a strong lobbying effort to ask certain Member countries for support to the country in order to achieve membership in the OECD, in this process have involved other representatives of the Government as the Ambassador of Costa Rica to the WTO, Ronald Saborío.
OECD decision who belong to his group by different criteria, including the merits of each candidate, their level of participation and contribution in committees, working groups, the subscription that make legal instruments and also the forums that have been present.
The Organization in the same way seeks to transcend other considerations apart from the influence of the candidate countries, as considerations of geopolitical type, balance and regional weight of this country in the OECD and the governance of the organization. The way in which countries make decisions at the WTO, among others is also taken into account.

Presidente of China will visit Costa Rica to promote cooperation mutual

Trade relations between China and Costa Rica were consolidated during the Government of former President Oscar Arias
The President of China, Xi Jinping will visit the city of San José, Costa Rica from 2 to 4 June as part of his tour of Latin America, announced President Laura Chinchilla.
One of the main objectives of the visit of the Chinese President is mutual agreements between the two countries, especially on investment in infrastructure, clean energy and education area.
Already been in Costa Rica about the investment that plans to make the Chinese Government in the construction of a road in the region of the Costa Rican Caribbean, this investment amounts to $400 million.
Since Costa Rica established relations with China, approximately seven years ago, the Government of the Asian giant has generously cooperated with some US$ 500 million to various projects in Costa Rica, in addition to the free trade agreement that exists between the two Nations.
The President Laura Chinchilla describes relations between Costa Rica and China as a luxury, since he says that few countries can be given the opening to important groups in the Asia-Pacific sector.
The visit of Jinping will be characterized by the conversations and search for agreements on issues such as the development of an exclusive economic zone, to attract foreign investment and generate an export platform to other countries in the world.
"China is critical for us," says President Chinchilla, who seeks that Costa Rica is part of the most recognized groups of economies around the world.
Costa Rica maintains excellent trade relations with China, who in turn has been responsible for investments in Costa Rica, not only in the real estate industry but also in means of transport, promotion of education through scholarships, among others.
Due to the great influence and strengthen the relations between the two countries, Costa Rica inaugurated at the beginning of the year 2013 Chinatown located in the capital San Jose.

President Brack Obama will visit Costa Rica in May

The last President to visit Costa Rica was Bill Clinton during his tenure in 1997.
The U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Costa Rica the first week of May, in the framework of the Summit of the System of Central American Integration (SICA), where they will discuss issues related to the promotion of economic growth and regional cooperation on the issue of public safety.
Obama not only will visit Costa Rica, but that this responds to a tour of several Latin American countries, including Mexico, country that will visit prior to play Costa Rican soil. Also at the Summit of SICA will participate the Presidents of Central America.
During your visit, Barack Obama will have a bilateral meeting with the President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, who mentioned that "for Costa Rica will always be an honor to receive President Obama" and recalled that "on several occasions have signaled our interest because it is through this visit, reason that since the possibility was opened have put us in contact with other Presidents in the region to ensure that it will be a success".

The last time President Laura Chinchilla met Barack Obama was at the Summit of the Americas, almost a year ago, in the month of April 2012.
The first American President to visit Costa Rica was John F. Kennedy in 1963.

China donates $4.8 million to Costa Rica, loans another $4.8 million


The two countries sign cooperation agreements on education and on maintenance for the National Stadium.
costadevelopers.comA new donation from the Republic of China was signed Tuesday between President Laura Chinchilla and Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Representatives from both countries also signed cooperation agreements for hosting six Chinese teachers who will teach Mandarin classes in three training centers at the National Training Institute, for a period of two years.

They also agreed on a draft for technical cooperation for the National Stadium, donated by China, to provide a pumping system and specialized technical assistance for daily maintenance.

China approves Costa Rican beef exports

Chinese officials reported Today that Costa Rica is officially included in the list of countries authorized to export beef to that country.

costadevelopers.comDuring an August tour of Asia by Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, officials from both countries announced the forthcoming opening of the market for Costa Rican beef, pending delivery to the Asian country of health certificates.
Foreign Trade Minister Anabel González said that China’s approval “is a win for the agricultural export sector, because that market offers great potential for our businesses, and we will continue working on the identification of potential niche markets for Costa Rican products.”

Costa Rica already has approval for entry into China of bananas and cattle hides, and is working on the approval for pork, chicken, seafood, pineapple and melon. Permission for dairy products is in its final stage, according to PROCOMER.

During the first year of entry into force of the China-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement, exports from Costa Rica to China increased 70 percent compared to the same period the previous year, before the trade agreement was implemented.
